Volunteers area needed to assist with the annual Maple Syrup Festival at Purple Woods Conservation Area in Oshawa on the above dates.  Volunteers are needed to help celebrate 40 years of maple syrup and family fun in north Oshawa The Festival is a great opportunity for adults and local high school students to log some community volunteer hours.

Volunteers are needed to host children’s activities, interpretive  displays, assist with admissions, parking and our food services.  Volunteers must be able to work from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Outside volunteers will be supplied with a lumberjack shirt to identify themselves as volunteers. The uniform may be worn over an existing coat and is to be returned at the end of each day.

All selected volunteers will need to arrange their own transportation to and from the conservation area as bus service is not available.  Attendance at a mandatory orientation session at the Conservation Area on Saturday March 4 from 1pm to 3pm is required. 

Purple Woods Conservation Area is located at 38 Coates Road at the corner of Coates Road and Simcoe Street in north Oshawa. Volunteers will need to arrange their own transportation to and from the conservation area. Bus service is not available.

First Nations Interpreter (Assistant Display Host)
Describing to the visitors how maple syrup was first discovered and made, you will receive a script ahead of time and will work with the display host. There will be props to help you explain. At end of day assist with display take down and any needed clean up.

Early Settlers Interpreter (Assistant Display Host)
Describing to the visitors how the method of making maple syrup changed & improved, you will receive a script ahead of time & will work with the display host. There will be props to help you explain. At end of day assist with display take down & any needed clean up.

Log Cabin (Assistant Display Host)
Welcoming the visitors into the cabin and describing the usage of some of the artifacts. You will receive a script ahead of time & will work with the display host. At end of day assist with display take down & any needed clean up.

Children's Activity Assistant
This is a rotating position where you will be working with the Children’s Activity Host engaging children and adults with a variety of hands-on craft and game activities. Activities will take place in both outdoor and indoor environments.

Admissions
This is a rotating position of welcoming and directing visitors to entrance area as well as checking tickets at the trail gate. At end of day assist with clean up. Festival associate (admission) assist ticket sales staff providing tickets and/or hand stamping for arriving visitors.

Outdoor Syrup and Taffy Station
Assist staff in delivering the maple syrup tasting and taffy making program to Festival visitors.  Describe the process of transforming maple syrup into maple taffy.
Parking
Help direct cars to parking spots. At end of day assist with clean up.

Pancake House Attendant
Table/Recycling area - Assist visitors with getting their order to their table, clean & wipe off tables, return trays, handling the recycling from returned trays, make sure full bags are removed & replaced with new ones.
